Ran the Fast Running Blog 5 Miler for Strong Families this morning. My mile split times are as follows (8:02 average):
- 7:52
- 8:14 (started out too fast and adjusted?)
- 8:05 (First half 3:59 at turn around point. Second half 4:06)
- 8:01
- 7:57
I decided not to scrutinize and record every quarter, thought it might be a bit overwhelming. I instead did every mile. I can see the benefit of hitting quarters on target pace, especially on a relatively flat course. I wasn't certain that an 8 min pace (my goal) was where I should be. I let my body feel it out and it ended up being pretty close. It felt good to run hard today and I enjoyed seeing runners from the blog.
At the last 5 Miler put on by Sasha and Sarah two months ago (May 9), I averaged an 8:30 mi pace. I ran that one more evenly than today's but I'm happy with my progress. Good race!
Iced my legs in the tub for 15 minutes and stretched well.
