Personal:

Married.  Stay at home mom.  My husband and I have 2 daughters and 4 sons.  And I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

With a seemingly impossible long-term goal of running a sub 3 hour marathon, the following scriptures give me hope:

In your patience possess ye your souls. Luke 21:19

But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. James 1:4

But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it. Romans 8:25

Submit cheerfully and with patience to all the will of the Lord.         Mosiah 24:15

And Ezra teaches that discipline and patience are born of disappointment.

Ran the Fast Running Blog 5 Miler for Strong Families this morning.  My mile split times are as follows (8:02 average):

  1. 7:52
  2. 8:14 (started out too fast and adjusted?)
  3. 8:05 (First half 3:59 at turn around point.  Second half 4:06)
  4. 8:01
  5. 7:57

I decided not to scrutinize and record every quarter, thought it might be a bit overwhelming.  I instead did every mile.  I can see the benefit of hitting quarters on target pace, especially on a relatively flat course.  I wasn't certain that an 8 min pace (my goal) was where I should be.  I let my body feel it out and it ended up being pretty close.  It felt good to run hard today and I enjoyed seeing runners from the blog.

At the last 5 Miler put on by Sasha and Sarah two months ago (May 9), I averaged an 8:30 mi pace.  I ran that one more evenly than today's but I'm happy with my progress.  Good race!

Iced my legs in the tub for 15 minutes and stretched well.

9:20 averaged pace for the week

Great job on the race. That cloud cover today made running a lot easier, didn't it?

Jamie:

It appears that you got scared in the second mile. Your later miles show that you had the fitness for a faster pace. Was the decision to slow down based on the first split being to fast, or did you feel body signals that suggested the pace was not sustainable?

Overall good progress in the last 2 months. From this point the improvement will come from increased training consistency. I would suggest setting a goal of no less than 4 miles a day 6 days a week. If you feel good, go more and faster. If not, plod along at 10:00 pace or even slower just to breathe some fresh air and shake the legs.

Darn good progress over two months time!!! Nicely done and best of luck with training and getting even faster!
